Dreams of Embers. Days of Ashes: Anna Gudjónsdóttir

Forthcoming exhibition
  • Übersicht

We are delighted to present a solo exhibition by Icelandic artist Anna Guðjónsdóttir.

Anna Guðjónsdóttir studied Fine Arts at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK) with Prof. Franz Erhard Walther. Her work has been presented in numerous international exhibitions and projects, and she has received several awards and distinctions.

Reflecting on her practice, Guðjónsdóttir says: “Maybe we could call my art contemporary landscape painting, although I always work with the entire space and other elements, not only with painting.”

Her work is deeply informed by the forces of nature and by the landscapes of her native Iceland. For her exhibition at TOM REICHSTEIN contemporary, the gallery space and its architecture become integral parts of the work itself. Rather than encountering individual works from a distance, visitors enter into a spatial composition - an immersive experience that is central to Guðjónsdóttir’s artistic practice.

One of the works in the exhibition bears the title I am gradually being taught to see - a phrase that resonates strongly with her artistic approach and the way she invites us to experience our surroundings anew.

Guðjónsdóttir conceives of her exhibitions as platforms for interdisciplinary exchange. For this exhibition, she has invited friends and fellow artists and thinkers to contribute a series of talks, performances, and other events, extending the exhibition beyond the visual into a space for encounter and dialogue.
