View on a Wall
With “VICTORIA,” Linus Rauch creates a powerful memorial to the history of the Victoria Bar. Founded in 2001 as a hotspot for the city’s barflies in the drafty winds of Potsdamer Straße, the bar was severely damaged by a fire on December 19. Although there were no injuries, the material loss was extensive. While the artists whose works were destroyed received compensation and an invitation to return, Rauch took a different approach: he collected the burned floor of the bar and used it as the foundation for his new series. The result is both a striking time capsule and a foreboding reminder—reflecting the bar’s turbulent history and pointing toward a new beginning.
