CHENXI ZHONG - THE FIRST HUMAN WAS A GARDENER

Galerie im Marstall

We are delighted to announce Chenxi Zhong’s solo exhibition at Galerie im Marstall Ahrensburg. From May 11 to June 29, 2025, she transforms the exhibition space into a poetic landscape of material, form, and narrative.

Chenxi Zhong's works unfold as spatial narratives marked by ambiguity and openness. Using simple materials and a reduction to geometric and graphic elements, she creates vivid installations that forge a subtle dialogue between nature and culture.

Her sculptural objects often resemble botanical schematics and invite the viewer to engage with moments of nurturing, growth, and observation. In doing so, Zhong offers a new perspective on the garden—not just as a site of cultivation but as an aesthetic and cultural construct.

In the exhibition "The First Human Was a Gardener", mythological symbols such as the serpent and the apple are interwoven with cultural and personal references. A color palette ranging from emerald green to magenta creates a dense, shimmering atmosphere. Plants, fences, tools, and benches merge into a vibrant composition where traces of human presence subtly appear.

Chenxi Zhong (*1993, Chengdu, China) lives and works in Wendland, Germany. After studying design and Chinese literature, she pursued sculpture at the HFBK Hamburg. Her installations, which combine sculptural and graphic elements, have been shown in the USA, Greece, and Italy.
